Welcome to the portal www.dancingforchennai.com; where science meets philosophy. The unrelenting quest for more and the subsequent increasing sophistication of man is in parallel with declining humane values. Science and philosophy are the two complementary guidelines for man. While science is explicit, philosophy is implicit. DFC caters to the important need of merging science with philosophical values.
The portal is maintained by thinker / writer Ashok Kumar. AK completed his BSc (Physics) from Madras Christian College in 1990. A former university athlete, he has represented Madras University twice for Cross country running and was a silver and bronze medalist in 10,000 m and 5000 m respectively, in the Freedom Forty Tamil Nadu Inter University athletic Meet, in 1988. He was a regular medal winner in the prestigious A.L. Mudaliar Athletic Meet during his days.
Today AK is a professional writer with a diverse writing experience spanning over a quarter century. He had been an engineering patent abstract writer for Derwent Inc. (Now Clarivate Analytics) and a business news editor for rttnews.com. Working on the theme of ‘Science and Philosophy’, the portal (DFC) strives to promote a better understanding of humanity and its values. AK had also been an academic research writer, writing in varied academic domains including philosophy, psychology, sociology, criminology, health care and management. It was in 1994 and 1995 that his thought evoking short stories were published in the English eveninger News Today. The published short stories were subsequently brought out as a short story collection ‘Scattered Pearls’, which then won rave reviews. The inspiring online novel Imayam and the four act play Muhurtham are directed at rekindling South Indian English fiction, while David leaves School is our own contribution to western fiction. His introspective article ‘The Other Side of Uncle Death’, also published in 1994, explored the rationale of human development and its unavoidable consequences. Although over two decades, he continues this journey of exploration with more strength and understanding.
AK has also completed his MSc. in yoga and teaches techniques for better physical and mental health, through an understanding of mind-body dynamics. To him, youth is an unique phase of life and the core of any youth culture and its scale define the future state of that society. The portal strives to promote harmony and sustainable development among men. In an era of increasing specialization, ironically coinciding with declining human values, seeing things holistically is very important. As professions begin to get more specialized, together with constantly emerging life demands and threats, the holistic viewpoint of collective welfare is diluted. DFC reiterates its commitment to strive towards this holistic viewpoint of collective welfare, through knowledge and philosophical considerations.
